Alex Gollner has been making some interesting ‘improved’ FCP generators which are available for free from his site.
What’s really made my day has been his recent Lower 3rd generator:
- Multi Line (for tummy tags with egotistical job titles, thanks Fortune500)
- Justify left, right and centre
- Three levels of heirachy/font treatment (Name, job, company)
- Put it anywhere on screen (not just 4:3 title safe)
- Flexible background block (extend off bottom of screen, position top where you want)
- Graduated fade of background block (very popular)
- It’s quick, simple, effective and does about 97% of my name caption needs (fast turnaround stuff)
Sure there’s loads more stuff - I love his swing filter (like a transition, but a filter) for making quick and dirty Apple/TED keynote presentations with slides and presenter on screen.
There’s lots of stuff on using curves on dissolves, widening the feather on transitions, all about making the Apple stuff work better or work ‘different’ so they become useful rather than fillers.
He’s also fixed some pretty major bugs and found workarounds for the ones he can’t code around (using ALL fonts in generators, using double-byte characters in rollers, moving images at the same speed as rollers and so on
And they’re all free.
